Winchester GP were truly humbled when one of our patients, unprompted, started sending in their weekly experiences of starting the weightloss medication Mounjaro. We think it’s an incredibly brave and generous thing to do, and so are delighted to share their updates verbatim here.

Week 1, weight on the scales 4 days in 101.8kg (Week 0: weight 103.3kg)
Wow!
I’m not sure I have the words…but I appreciate that’s not why you’re here so let me try and find them…
Ok, let’s start from the beginning. Ordering my prescription was very easy. Winchester GP suggested I use their pharmacist but suggested I look around. I did and their pharmacist was significantly cheaper so I went with them.
Each month the dose of the injection increases so I’m starting on the lowest dose of 2.5mg which was £146. This arrived the next day. You can inject into your abdomen, thigh or arm.
Interestingly, I was feeling apprehensive but not until the moment of injecting did I feel nervous about the injection itself. Mostly I was anxious about side effects and whether I’d feel like I had flu (I didn’t know what else having no appetite would feel like!).
I held my breath, did the necessary preparations and popped the needle in my stomach - and didn’t feel a thing! It was all really easy and so I breathed a sigh of relief. I figured it would take a few days to set in but that evening - whether psychological or whether it was as instantaneous, I noticed that I didn’t want to eat most of my dinner.
Over the next few days I made myself smaller portions of food and would find that I would eat half and then put my knife and fork down. I still enjoyed my food but I simply felt that I was finished. The only way I can describe it was that my throat didn’t want to take anymore food.
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve spoken to a lot of close family about it and I’ve been incredibly surprised and grateful for how supportive everyone has been.
And despite telling a friend I would stick to weighing myself once a week - I stepped on the scales four days in and found I’d already lost more than I had in ages.
Here’s where it gets interesting…on days 5 and 6 I noticed that my appetite and hunger came back. Upon further investigation I noticed this wasn’t unusual. I started eating more (still smaller portions though) and I decided to inject my next dose on day 6.
I wouldn’t think the GP would recommend this going forward. My main reason was that I wanted to change the day of my injections…and I actually missed having less of an appetite. Next week I’ll be back on 7 days.
So until next week…
