This is an exciting part time opportunity to join our friendly team for either:

  • An HCA with particularly strong phlebotomy skills or
  • An experienced phlebotomist who is keen to add further HCA skills to their competency

Location: Central Winchester

Hours: 10-24 hours per week, spread over at least 2 days to include Monday and Friday. This role could be filled by one candidate for the full amount time, or the hours could be split between several practitioners, to facilitate their other professional or personal commitments.

Salary: Highly competitive dependent on experience

Winchester GP is a leading private general practice operating from multiple locations throughout Hampshire.

The role: Supported by the lead senior HCA and GP’s within the practice, the Health Care Assistant will deliver care within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

You will be supporting our doctors ‘real-time’ through their clinics with phlebotomy, chaperoning, ECGs and any other clinical or non clinical tasks which may facilitate a 5 star experience.

You will also run your own clinics for the purposes of health screening, blood tests and any other clinical services that fall within your field of competence.

Full support and training will be provided for any less experienced practitioners. Therefore this position is ideal for both experienced HCAs and also phlebotomists, who would like to add further clinical skills to their portfolio.

Your duties will include and not be limited to:

  • Wellness screening (BP, height, weight, BMI, Urinalysis)
  • Phlebotomy
  • ECG recording
  • Administer B12 injections and flu vaccinations
  • Facilitate 24-hour BP monitoring and 24 hour tapes
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage monitoring and recording of fridge temperatures.
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Clinic championing for GP’s
  • Doppler studies
  • Basic administrative tasks

Academic/Vocational Qualifications

Essential: 

  • Qualified and at least 1 years experience in Phlebotomy
  • Functional skills or Basic skills in Maths and English

Desirable: 

  • NVQ/ Diploma level 2

Experience

Essential: Experience within a health care setting

Desirable: Experience in GP Practice

Knowledge/Skills

Essential:

  • Strong skills in Phlebotomy,
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions
  • Computer literate
  • Basic IT Skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in ECGs, Blood Pressures
  • Administering flu and b12 vaccinations

  • Monday to Friday
